CPP Youth Condemns Those with Negative Opinions on the 10th Amendment to the Constitution

Phnom Penh: The youth of the Central Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has condemned some people who have expressed pessimism about the initiative to amend the Constitution for the 10th time. The youth of this one big and strong party in Cambodia considered the negative assessment of the amendment as baseless and completely distorted.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 29, the Central Youth Party of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) announced its support for the Royal Government of Cambodia's Initiative for the 10th Amendment of the Constitution, saying that this arrangement was done in accordance with the principles and procedures enshrined in the Constitution, in particular, ensuring respect for the fundamental principles of constitutional monarchy, the promotion of the principles of pluralistic liberal democracy.

The statement said: "The 10th amendment to the Constitution, as well as the previous nine amendments, are all to protect the national interest, especially to fill the gaps in the Constitution and to ensure "State institutions run smoothly, are not stuck and ensure sustainability in all circumstances."

The CPP youth consider those who oppose the amendment to be baseless, inaccurate in true content of the current amendment proposal, and to make statements that distort the facts completely.

Draft Constitutional Law on the Amendment of Article 19 new (one), Article 89, Article 98 (new), Article 102 (new), Article 119 new (one) and Article 125 (new) of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Article 3 (new) and Article 4 (new) of the new Constitution for the normal functioning of national institutions was approved by the Council of Ministers on July 8, 2022.

It is noteworthy that the new draft constitution allows the party with the most seats in the National Assembly to propose to the King to appoint an elite Prime Minister to form the Royal Government, and go through parliament, and additional procedures for the state process to form a new government in the absence of the Prime Minister or the Prime Minister resigns.

According to the Minister of Justice, amending the Constitution now, it is necessary to ensure the functioning of state institutions, maintain stability, peace, and peace of the people, fill the gaps of the Constitution and still adhere to the fundamental principles of democracy. The National Assembly of Cambodia fully approved the 10th Amendment of the Cambodian Constitution after opening the 7th Plenary Session of the 6th Legislature on Thursday, July 28, 2022.

All 105 of the 106 lawmakers from the CPP voted unanimously to approve the full passage of the 10th Constitution.

After the law passes, the National Assembly will send it to the Senate for further approval before sending it to the King for official signature.
